PRODUCT SUMMARY
Celery seed are from the plant called Apim graveolens and has a warming, slightly bitter spice often used in culinary dishes. It can be added to spice blends, marinades, pickling recipes and beverage mixes, and the seeds can be prepared as tea or extract. The Greeks and Romans often called Celery seed as "smallage" where it is harvested in the wild for its medicinal properties, and the Romans used it for cooking. It was not until the 19th cenutry that the seeds were used as a spice in recipes and pickling.
RECIPE
Try this delicious Sweet and Tangy Slow Cooker Bar-B-Q Pork.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp chili sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp hot sauce
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp celery seed
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 3 Tbsp brown sugar
- 2 lbs country style pork ribs
- 1 onion, sliced into rings
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into rings
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix the ketchup, chili sauce, water, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, Dijon mustard, chili powder, garlic powder, celery seed, black pepper, and brown sugar.
- Place the pork ribs in a slow cooker, and layer with onion and red bell pepper. Pour sauce into the slow cooker.
- Cover, and cook 8 hours on low.
