With its Latin name Cuminum cymimum, Cumin Seeds grow native from the Mediterranean all the way to India. This is is best known as an ingredient used in a variety of Mexican recipes. You can spice up your roast with Cumin seed powder, and it can be combined with fruit and sweet-flavored root vegetables and used to season a pork or beef roast. To accent a chili dish, you can mix Cumin seed with sour cream to garnish on hot food, this would help subdue the heat of the chili peppers. If you want to boost your salad game, you can mix the cumin seed powder, and it can feature corn, beans, cheese and add some chicken to it, pour oil and vinegar dressing. And if you like barbeque, you can wipe some of these powder with onion and garlic powder, paprika, garlic and other seasonings. RECIPE

Because of its rich characteristic, Cumin seeds are popular among people who love spicy foods. Try this Spicy Cumin Chicken Thighs with Green Beans.

Ingredients:

  • 300g green beans
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 6 chicken thighs, skinless and boneless
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp chili powders
  • 2 tsp chili flakes
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the green beans and a pinch of salt. Leave to simmer until the beans are cooked, do not overcook. Then drain them in a colander.
  2. While waiting for the beans to cook, mix the chicken thighs with all the other ingredients, including the oil.
  3. Heat up a frying pan, a heavy-bottomed one is preferred, on a medium heat. Place in all the chicken thigh while not overlapping. Cook the first side until in turns golden brown, it would take around 6-8 minutes per side.
  4. Flip them over and cook for a further 2 minutes. Then push the chicken thighs to one side of the pan. Tilt the pan a little to let the existing oil flow to the other side. Add drained green beans. Toss from time to time.
  5. When the second side of the chicken thighs are done, dish everything out. Serve warm with rice or potato. you can also slice the chicken into pieces then use a filling for Chinese Spring Pancakes.
